Pool Volume Calculator in 3D

See how much water your pool holds. Choose its outline, enter the inside dimensions and water depths, then lower the waterline or look through the side. The gallons, liters, and filling time update with the model.

Complete rectangular pool with a sloping floor, blue water, and pale stone copingDrag to Rotate

Water depth is measured vertically from the water surface to the pool floor.

Normal WaterlineShallow-End Floor

At the normal waterline. Depth labels show the water currently in the pool.

Pool Measurements

Measure the inside of the pool. Enter depths at the normal waterline, below the rim.

Pool Floor

Depth at the normal waterline.

One straight slope connects the two ends.

Rectangle: straight sides and square corners.

Volume follows the selected outline with vertical walls and either a flat floor or one continuous straight slope. Steps, benches, curved walls, and separate deep hoppers change the result.

Follow the Waterline Down

The pool shell stays the same while the amount of water changes. A waterline drop reduces both end depths by the same vertical amount. The slider stops when the shallow-end floor reaches the waterline.

Each 1-inch waterline change is about 319 US gal while the whole floor remains covered.

How Long Will It Take to Fill?

Enter the combined flow reaching the pool. Filling time assumes a constant flow with no leaks or interruptions. Use your own water tariff to estimate the water charge.

Time a measured container to estimate the actual flow.

Optional. Enter your local volumetric rate; fixed fees are additional.

The Outline Changes the Volume

Use inside dimensions at the waterline. The average of the two end depths applies to a straight floor slope across these symmetric shapes. A racetrack outline includes straight sides between two semicircular ends; it holds more than an ellipse with the same overall length and width.

Rectangle

A = LW

Length × width

Round

A = πD² / 4

D is the full inside diameter

Oval / Ellipse

A = πLW / 4

L and W are the full axes

Oblong / Racetrack

A = (L − W)W + πW² / 4

L ≥ W; semicircular ends

Volume = area × average water depth

512 ft² × 5 ft = 2,560 ft³

US gallons 19,150

Imperial gallons 15,946

Liters 72,491

Cubic feet 2,560

US and Imperial gallons are different units. This calculator uses 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 liters and 1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609 liters.

Pool Volume Questions

Should I measure the wall height or water depth?

Measure from the normal water surface to the floor. The rim and empty space above the normal waterline do not hold water in this calculation. Use the waterline slider for a lower current level.

Can I use this for an above-ground pool?

Yes. Choose the matching inside outline and a flat floor if the depth is constant. Use actual water depth, which is usually less than the total wall height.

What if the pool has a shallow flat area, a ramp, and a deep flat area?

The two-end average is not enough for that floor profile. Calculate each region from its own plan area and average depth, then add the volumes. This model represents a single straight slope or flat floor.

Does this calculate pool chemical doses?

This page calculates water volume and filling quantities. Product concentration, current test readings, and treatment targets are separate inputs needed for dosing.

Why does an oval sometimes use a different formula?

“Oval” can describe an ellipse or an outline with straight sides and rounded ends. These shapes enclose different areas. Choose the outline that matches your pool instead of applying one factor to every rounded pool.
